Left to right: "Connie" (sometimes "Bonnie") Helm, "Smitty", me, Fortson (Alabama), Paul D. Johnson and, maybe (lying down), Goodwin. Connie and Goodwin were corpsmen. Smitty? Either a corpsman or a ship's serviceman. Johnson, Fortson and me: Yeomen.
Taken on the fantail late March 1955 (I think) while at sea. It only took a day or two out of San Francisco to hit warm weather and start to hear that Hawaiian music and Alfred Apaka beckoning us on. This was our Club Med area. Me in the middle, reading. But there we all are. A small group of people, many years ago, on a large ship on a tiny spot on a large ocean on an even larger planet that is swirling about in an unfathomable universe. Somewhere between San Francisco and the Philippines. Probably closer to the Philipines than to San Francisco. Through the miracle of photography this little group of people at this moment in time is forever frozen together in time and space. Whatever has happened or will happen to those of us in this picture, here we will be together forever. This site is "template" based so that even though there are a lot of templates to choose from, you are still limited by what they have provided. But worse, the ability to upload photo size is quite limited. Further, the site does not seem to allow for small, "thumbnail" photos that will expand to larger sizes when you click on them. Go to classmates.com for photos and information on those photos. There is a link to those albums on my LINK page.
